Cough Up More Cash

Coughing up Money

2008, more than any other year in air travel, has definitely demonstrated that there are no free rides. Fees, taxes, surcharges - when you add it all up it could make an air traveler's head spin.

Costs go up and up

Airfare Specials this Week

Thursday August 28, 2008

It's been an intense week for air travel, with 2 major plane crashes and a hijacked plane. Details can be found for those stories in the Air Travel Forum. This week, airfare specials and a cruise special that includes airfare.

Deal from Kayak - $1199 - Two Week Transatlantic Cruise This Fall - Includes Air. From Fort Lauderdale or Miami - $200 more from nearly 2 dozen other US cities.

JetBlue's Jet Out of Town sale is on for the next few days. Great deals, but quirky - specials change daily and are for specific dates. Want to see a sample airfare? 49$ From Newark, NJ (EWR) to Fort Lauderdale, FL (FLL) on September 13, 2008 (one way).

California State Sale - Southwest Airlines. Requires advance purchase and travel dates from September 2 to December 18. Sample one way airfares include San Diego - San Francisco for $49.

Don't forget to check the Air Travel Forum - lots of airfare specials/airline promotions are listed, as are plenty of opinions!

Early Airfare Special This Week

Tuesday August 26, 2008
Had to blog this one quick. One of those sales that starts and ends within days. This one is from Spirit Airlines and it ends at the end of August 27....so hours away.

But with travel dates into the summer of next year, and when you join their fare club for $9 you get access to fares starting at $3 one way with this sale, it earned mention.

Spirit put it this way - "We're Having A Threesome! Three Sales In One - Come Join The Fun! Fares From $3* Each Way!" And you can read about the sale and conditions by following the link from the Air Travel Forum post I wrote.

Calm, Cool and Connected - Internet Inflight

Monday August 25, 2008
keyboardIf you just must stay in touch via e-mail while on board, then there is good news on the horizon. Several airlines are beginning to provide internet options, to a varying degree. Let's take a look at a few of the players...

JetBlue and Yahoo got a head start on many of the airlines by offering internet service on its Beta Blue aircraft. It is just the one plane that offers connectivity, but they did start ahead of their competitors.

American Airlines made a huge splash onto the internet inflight offerings: American is the First Airline to Offer Full Inflight Internet in the U.S. on the Entire 767-200 Fleet. At about $13, it's not a bad deal at all if you need to stay connected, and especially if you have a transcontinental flight.

Delta Airlines is also poised to offer internet options in the near future as well.

The next year should lead to more airlines offering internet inflight.
